Vlog #01

Here in my first “official” video blog I talk about the design community and give some shout outs to a few people worth mentioning. I recorded this last night in bed, armed with just a few notes on what I wanted to talk about and my sleepy dogs for comfort.

This is part of a process where I’m learning things don’t have to be perfect in order to be posted. So please, I would love to hear any and all comments (so long as they’re constructive) and any tips to making it better. Hopefully this will become a regular part of my blog.

Kyle! get your video on man! Great job… don’t sweat being nervous… you are a rad guy and I always enjoy having conversations with ya. Record those things like you are having a conversation and a cup of coffee (or better yet a beer) with all of us who watch. ;)

Love the painting in the back!

    keep em comin man!

Hahaha. Thanks. I like the idea of “having a beer” with you guys. I think I just might introduce a cold Kirin in my next one.

Kyle! Dude, thanks for the shout out and the kind words, I’m flattered. Honestly, I think I’m much more excited in having met you there than you having met me! Haha…

Nice job with your first video, keep it up! I look forward to seeing this develop and your progression.

We should totally try and meet up before WordCamp: Dallas.

Absolutely man. I’m sure we can get together sometime between now and the end of the month. And I think your style is just great, you seem to have a good grasp on design and I’m looking forward to what you come up with for your redesign.

I’m working hard on it, and I’m excited about how it is turning out. Maybe I’ll take a little break and get some posts together showing some initials and concepts, and the process I’m taking at a birds eye view.

Thanks for the encouragement, you rock.

Looking forward to many more Kyle. One tip: Put the pen down :) Rock on!

Great job Kyle and well done for having the courage to post it. Hope to see a lot more in the future. :)

Well done Kyle, I am stoked you posted the video. It only gets easier from here!

David. I believe you’re right. Like I said before, the positive response so far from posting this has boosted my confidence to do it again. Not that I’m really that shy, but talking to a camera is a little awkward, and I think that will be the biggest thing to get past. Thanks.

    Kyle,

I think you did a great job with this video. You are very kind to say such nice things about other people. My only suggestion is to not tap on the table or computer. You did that a few times in this video, but it doesn’t ruin it.

    Well done,

    Dr. Gigabyte

    P.S.

    My website is almost live.

Only one thing: Get rid of the pen!

I’m fidgety too so I know the temptation. It’ll drive you nuts and viewers will wonder what all the noise is.

Awesome vid though. Definitely keep posting and feel free just to chat. Somebody will always be around to respond. =)

@Seth – Yeah that’s been the biggest piece of feedback I’ve gotten so far, “lose the pen”. And it’s funny because I didn’t even think about it while I was recording. But watching it back now I can see how it’s a distraction. And thanks for the compliment, all the great comments I’ve been getting are helping me realize that it takes practice and the more I do it the better I will become. Cheers!

I love watching video blogs from designers. So often we get to see the great things they’ve created/designed/drawn but not the person behind them. I hope you continue doing more of these.

    Hey Kyle,

I just noticed that you mentioned me in this vlog. Sorry I’m so behind the times! Thanks for the mention and I hope you’re recovering from the hard drive crash. Have a great day!

I am still setting up my laptop with all the apps I use. Next step is getting an external hard drive. I’m really digging the new design of you site.
