We all have those days when we’re not 100% – that was today for me. But what really counts in this life are the relationships we have and those who can lend an ear and an encouraging word. After an uplifting conversation I had with my friend Daniel (really more like a brother) I opened up the Bible to Ecclesiastes. I ran across an old verse I had underlined that really inspired me:
“So I perceived that nothing is better than that a man should rejoice in his own works, for that is his heritage. For who can bring him to see what will happen after him?” – Ecclesiastes 3:22
Regardless of whether you are unhappy at your job, in between jobs, or out of a job, we should all enjoy the work which we can get/have, no matter how small or big the task.

Good points Kyle,
No matter where we work there will be good days and bad days alike, and the key is to try to take them in stride with the bigger picture in mind.
I read this article yesterday, and it made some great point about “not just going to work”.

A lot of it comes down to the mindset we choose to have… really shows the importance of renewing our minds.

Totally on point Aaron. It’s all about the “choices” we make. Sometimes I don’t want to choose to be happy, or enjoy work, or whatever, but no one else is going to make me feel any different. And I think that’s when we see Christ more clearly, when we stop dwelling in our own self-pity and choose Him over all else.
I read that article as well yesterday. It had some valid points.
Very true Kyle. I like to remind myself that ultimately, our giftings come from the Lord. I sometimes forget that when anyone praises my design work, ultimately, it is God who gave me the gift in the first place, and all praise needs to be deflected back onto Him.
It is good to enjoy toiling in any good works we do under the Sun, though, not matter how small! Great , inspiring viseo post Kyle, keep up the good work…

I am SO trying to get to this state of mind and faith. I find myself dwelling on all the things I’m missing out on while at work… like my wife and daughter. Often feeling trapped by a sense of futility… working to support a life that I don’t have time to live because I’m working.
So many things come into play: pride, fear of letting down my family, fear of change, lack of faith, lack of confidence… the list goes on.
It’s too easy to place my hope and faith in things other than God… like my own ability, my own desired changes, my own desired future… and as those hopes fail, my faith takes a dive… it’s only in God that my hopes are fully realized and my faith made whole again…

Kyle,
Flesh and blood didn’t reveal that to you, brother. Thanks for the transparency, man.
God has been working on me with the same issue. I’ve been working for a major international bank for the past five years and I despise it. Why don’t I just say how I feel, huh, lol. I do. I use to pray about leaving constantly. The only thing that keeps me there is God. He always reminds me of Joseph, Ezra, and Daniel. He placed those dudes where He wanted for “such a time as this,” as Mordecai told Esther. They did whatever job they were assigned – even under the worst, or hellistic, leadership – to the best of their ability for the glory of God.
The Word says, “Whatever your hands find to do, do with all your might.” Your post was a great encouragement this Saturday morning. Truly led by God to read it. Thanks brother. Stay faithful. God’s using you to touch a lot of men (and women).
oh, yeah, your site layout, theme, style is amazing. It was featured on unionroom.com which is how I found you. See, God is enlarging your territory!

This was really encouraging for me, it’s great to see Christian designers utilizing their gifts to bring God glory. It’s easy to get discouraged with work, the verse was a nice reminder. Thanks for sharing it!
Ecclesiastes 3 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. Solomon was such a wise dude.
I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God. Ecclesiastes 3:12-13
So awesome.

I agree with you, no matter how small and boring the job, we should feel bless and enjoy it. In my country it’s not easy to find a single job, you should struggle to get one job with other thousand peoples who also need it. So whatever my job now, I will give my best to do it.
Kyle,
It’s excellent to be see another designer/creative doing excellent work and taking his faith seriously, and above his work. Just wanted to say thanks for the encouragement.
